What is the PSNGB and why should you join?

The PSNGB is a trade association for any organisation or individual that provides PSN services to the Public Sector. Its main objective is to bring together the collective strength of suppliers in ways that allow us to change our market place for the better. With that in mind, the PSNGB is really just a way to continue the great work that has already been done in order to get the Public Services Network this far. It could not have been achieved without a close collaboration between government and its suppliers, working within a well structured programme, with the authority to make ‘game changing’ decisions.  PSNGB will continue to work to ensure that the Public Services Network is an efficient, dynamic and vibrant market place.

This is a very interesting, indeed exciting time for those who provide communications solutions to government and the wider public sector. Contrary to the perception that there is no money in public sector ICT, there are in fact many factors working together right now that are creating an environment for business growth in our industry. Ironically it is budget constraint that is driving new investment because the money isn’t there to support the old way of doing things.

Firstly there is change – radical, wide ranging change in the way that public sector services are delivered and the Departments are organised. They have to find new lower cost delivery models and lower the barriers that have prevented collaboration and a single view of the citizen. Change is good, change is opportunity!

Secondly there is innovation. All the buzz words point to the need for faster, better, more flexible networks. Cloud, Virtualisation, Agile IT, App’s Stores, data centre consolidation – they all drive up bandwidth and demand new ways to interconnect people and organisations.

The PSNGB exists to drive forward this change, building on the thousands of hours of great work from around 100 industry partners that has gone into creating the PSN Operating Model and all the definitions, processes and standards that underpin it. Our customers have shown their commitment with the top 50 government departments and Local Authorities making clear their intent to migrate to PSN in a 4 year schedule of procurements worth around £3bn.

If you want to maximise the opportunity that this exciting period of modernisation and investment could mean to your organisation, join the PSNGB and get involved!
